Manager Graham Westley will aim to streamline Preston North End's first-team squad during the current transfer window.
Westley marked his first week as manager at Deepdale with the signings of Jamie McAlister, Andrew Procter and Chris Holroyd.
The three new arrivals swelled the ranks in the North End squad to 37, a situation Westley admits is unworkable.
"I don't want to work with the numbers of players that we've got at the football club - there are far too many here," he said. "That's not a financial pressure on me, that's a practical issue.
"There are far too many players to deal with and if you try to deal with that many players then you won't develop them as individuals and you won't develop a team environment. You've got to be fair to the players. Every player wants to be in with a chance of playing football and feel like he's fighting for a shirt - at the very least he should feel like he's developing his game.
"If you as a manager can't give them the attention and can't give them the sense that there's a worth to them being their then that's not a good environment. So, for sure, the squad will be narrowed down quite dramatically I would believe."
