Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner has irons in the fire to use if required when the loan window reopens on February 8.

Transfer deadline day passed without any new arrivals at the Greenhous Meadow but it was not for the want of trying, and Turner may well revisit "one or two options" when clubs outside the top flight are cleared to do business in a week's time.

"We made a number of phone calls about players which produced negative results," he told Town's official website. "The answer from several bigger clubs was they couldn't let players out yet but give it the week in February when you can't sign anybody and they will reassess it.

"There's one or two options if we want to take somebody once the emergency window opens again. We're not like the Premier League as it's not a deadline day where thereafter you can't sign anybody else.

"It's just that you can't sign anybody permanently or on a long-term loan. What you can do after February 8 is sign people on emergency loans for a maximum of 93 days.

"It's a period of days before we can strengthen it under the emergency system if we need to."
