Exeter manager Paul Tisdale was left frustrated following the goalless home draw with League One rivals Hartlepool.
Both sides came close to snatching a late winner, with goalkeeper Artur Krysiak denying Antony Sweeney and Exeter defender Troy Archibald-Henville planting a free header straight at Scott Flinders.
"It was a bit frustrating because we tried pretty hard and the game just wouldn't open up for either side," said Tisdale.
"There were no surprises given the way Hartlepool play and their recent away record, which is excellent.
"They don't commit players forward from the back and they are pretty resolute so you have got to do something special to break them down. They don't give it you on a plate.
"It is not the end of the world because it is a point and another clean sheet. Artur (Krysiak) made a good save at the end, but I would rather have won 8-7 than draw 0-0. It is something to build on but we would like to win our home games."
