Colchester manager John Ward felt his side did not get the luck they deserved after being held 1-1 at home against Scunthorpe.
Scunthorpe's new signing Josh Walker scored on his debut with a deflected shot to give Iron an eighth-minute lead, but Colchester claimed a share of the spoils thanks to Steven Gillespie's 28th-minute penalty after the striker had been tripped by Iron defender Paul Reid.
Ward said: "I want to win and we've done everything that we possibly can to do that. I feel for my team because they put in a lot of effort.
"Their goalkeeper has palmed and padded and kicked and punched and flapped at so many things throughout the afternoon that we deserved a wee bit of a break.
"We didn't get that, but if we have as many shots on goal as we have in our remaining games this season, then we will win more matches.
"Their goal took a deflection and we grumbled that there was a foul in the corner on Brian Wilson in the first place and I think that their manager said exactly the same. At that point we wondered then if it was going to be our day."
