Charlton manager Chris Powell felt his side were well worthy of their victory at League One rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Addicks skipper Johnnie Jackson scored the only goal, curling a first-half free-kick into the top right-hand corner to end the Owls' unbeaten home record in League One.

'I'm very proud of my players. We stood up to everything that was thrown at us - they're a big side and they use that to full effect. But one piece of quality won it for us,' said Powell.

'You put your hard work in on the training ground and your get reward. Johnnie [Jackson] practices his free-kicks all the time.

'I think every player played their part; it just shows I've got a team of good footballers who are also willing to do the other side. They've got a real togetherness and they deserved their win.

'We could have made the margin wider; Nicky Weaver pulled off some good saves but then they've had one kicked off the line at the end as well.'
