Eddie Howe has urged Burnley fans not to expect too much, too soon from promising new Irish left-back Danny Lafferty.
The 22-year-old joined the Championship outfit from Derry City following a successful trial period and an impressive display in a behind-closed-doors game against Wolves last week.
Lafferty received international clearance for his move on Wednesday and Clarets boss Howe is full of admiration for his talents.
"Danny's someone that we like," he told the Lancashire Telegraph. "He's a very attacking full-back with a lovely left foot and will get forward for us.
"He scored nine goals last year, which speaks volumes for his attacking adventures and he really fits the mould of our philosophy and what we're trying to do here. He's come here without a pre-season and does have a slight ankle knock at the moment so he's not for the short term.
"He'll be very much for the long term, which means he's going to have to fight for his place in the side and he's going to have to learn certain things - it's a big jump for him. But technically he's a very good footballer and he will fit into what we're trying to do."
