Bristol Rovers manager Mark McGhee will approach the loan system with a degree of caution as he looks to reinforce his squad.

McGhee, whose first game in charge of the Pirates ended in a 2-0 victory at Cheltenham on Saturday, is keen to strengthen his playing options. But should he look to the temporary market for new recruits, the Scot has admitted he will be doing so suspiciously.

"Loans are something I think we have to take advantage of but I'm always very suspicious of loan players. You have to get the right type. You have to have someone knowing this isn't their club, they're coming here to help us," he said.

"If you get people with the right attitude they can do that but you can also get people who are forced out at the other end by the other club, who encourage them that it's the right thing to do and they never really feel that.

"They'd come here not quite as committed as they need to be. It's not straightforward. You have to look at their character, the personality of the player you bring in on loans because it's something that could be dangerous."
